With music in the air and warmth in every heart, Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, celebrated the birthday of the beloved Sudhakantha, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, on September 8, 2026. The event was organized by AEC Students Union. The Principal, faculty members and students all gathered together to mark this special day.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by Principal Dr. Amrita Ganguly. Dr. Plabon Kakoti, HoD of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, beautifully rendered two poems written by Bhupen Da, leaving the audience deeply moved.

The Bhupendra Sangeet Competition was the highlight of the afternoon, where both students and faculty members presented some of his most loved songs with great feeling and devotion. Dr. Prasanta Kumar Choudhury, faculty member from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Jyoti Prakash Goswami, faculty member from the Department of Computer Applications, judged the competition.

Anupam Dutta, a student of Hostel 9 won the First Prize. Faculty member Joy Prakash Jyoti Bora and student Anurag Bora of Hostel 6 shared the Second Prize. Arindam Sarma, a student of Hostel 1, won the Third Prize. The special Judge's Choice Award went to faculty member Mridusmita Das.

It was a warm and heartfelt afternoon — a reminder that Bhupen Da's songs and words still live in our hearts.
