About Electronics And Telecommunication Engineering

Established in 1983 with an initial annual intake of 15 students, the Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering was the first department in Assam to offer a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Assam. Initially affiliated with Gauhati University, the department became affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) following its establishment in 2017.

Over the years, the department has steadily expanded its academic capacity and programmes. The annual student intake was increased from 15 to 30 in 1996 and subsequently to 60 students in 2007. In line with the evolving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) roadmap and the growing need for advanced research and innovation, the department initiated its Ph.D. programme in 2014, providing opportunities for research in emerging areas of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.

The department offers a comprehensive and continuously evolving curriculum covering the major thrust areas of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, with emphasis on emerging technologies, contemporary developments, and interdisciplinary applications. Through its commitment to quality education, research, and technological advancement, the department continues to contribute significantly to the development of skilled engineers and researchers.
